Viewing distance
When hunting for the best TV for your room, it’s impossible not to come across this term. A viewing distance tells you how far you should be sitting from your TV. However, keep in mind that these values are very rough estimates. Several factors will affect what your optimal distance should be.
Firstly, you should know that the TVs made nowadays have a very high resolution. Since they are almost exclusively 4K or higher, you won’t notice any flaws on your screen even if you sit too close.
Of course, your eyesight quality will affect your experience too. But assuming you have no problems with your eyesight, it ultimately comes down to your preferences. In the chart above, we’ve listed the recommended viewing distances. However, they are not fixed in stone. Treat them like a general guideline rather than a rule.
The viewing distance depends on the field of view you wish to have. The closer you are to the screen, the wider the field of view will be. While this may provide you with a more immersive experience, it can be nauseating for some people. This is because you may have to turn your head back and forth a lot if you sit too close. If you sit too far, then you may have trouble focusing on what happens on the screen. As your field of view broadens, you’ll notice the environment next to the screen too.
Remember that you must work with the dimensions of your room too. Sometimes, it just isn’t possible to reach the optimal viewing distance because the room is too small. In this case, you should probably go with a smaller TV.
75 vs. 85-inch
If you’re looking for a large model, you should start with size 75. But just how different is it from 85? For the most part, you can’t go wrong with either one. Ultimately, it comes down to how much space you have available for a new TV. A 75-inch model is 65.4 inches wide and 36.8 inches tall. On the other, an 85-inch model has a width of 74.1 inches and a height of 41.7inches. The surface areas are thus 2407 and 3090 square inches, respectively. Of course, larger sizes are generally costlier.
In terms of quality, they’re practically the same. If you stick with the optimal viewing, you can’t go wrong with either.
However, the optimal viewing distance accounts for only one person. If multiple people want to watch a movie together, a wider screen is much better. This is because it corrects the angle a little. So if you love a family movie night, go for the bigger size!
