We are not saying that one is better than the other. Suppose you’re building your home on a narrow lot. Chances are you won’t have the needed space to include a wraparound porch. In that case, it surely makes sense to have a front porch. They can even be installed on row houses too. It’s great to build something that you’re likely to want to rent out.
Suppose you’re specifically looking for options that are good for renting out. In that case, we propose you also look at our duplex designs. Some have a garage in the middle to help separate the two living areas. It ensures all your tenants have adequate parking space.
If you’re not finding the house plans that truly match what you’re looking for, there are other options. Perhaps you find your ideal design, but it doesn’t contain a porch. Reach out to us as most house plans can be customized to your needs.
Simple Options
Not all houses have to be mansions. It’s perfectly reasonable to desire something smaller. Something that is built using simple house design principles will also be cheaper.
Simpler houses also have other advantages to them. They’re usually a lot better financial options, too. Like duplexes, they can be sound investments. Consider a simple house plan if you want to rent out your property at a later point.
Their lower price tag appeals to someone not looking to build a 6 bedroom house. Many families would rather have a 1,400 square foot one. This section has gathered all the homes that fall under “simple.”
People often desire to build simpler models to do so more cost-effectively. It allows them the ability to recoup all their investment more easily. It is selling later when your house appeals to the masses. If you want a good return on investment, it’s a good idea to consider a middle-of-the-market option.
It means you make conscious decisions with building material choices and other things. Avoid ending up with a home that is only appealing to you and your taste buds.
Mistakes to avoid:

- Skimping on material quality
- Not having spaces that are sufficiently big
Saltbox Houses
Did you ever wonder where saltbox houses got their name from? It is a traditional, Colonial-style that came out of New England. When it is seen from the front, the roof looks symmetrical. If seen from the side, it becomes clear that the roof slopes so that the front has 2 stories. The back of the house looks like the house only has one.
The house has some recognizable features, including a flat front. The shape of the roof and the way the floors are built is the most easily recognizable. They got their name from the saltbox they resemble. They were used when the style started popping up around 1650.
The design started appearing since people chose to extend the side of the roof on one side. It would make for a relatively cheap way to increase the home’s square footage. As families grew in size, the saltbox could be modified.
More space was added as families often had many children. Today, the style is still being built and has improved since its original concept.
